The Most Fashionable Bloggers Episode 1

8 Apr

There are thousands of bloggers on the blogosphere and it’s not news that bloggers are taking over the global fashion industry. Bloggers inspire collections, co-design lines for designers, style editorials for fashion magazines, feature prominently in fashion week, act as consultants for designers and are a huge part of the advertising for fashion brands.

With so many blogs to choose from, there are many different styles, aesthetics and sensibilities, so when I find a blogger who makes my eyes round as saucers due to their AH -MAZING style, it excites me to no end.

So I was doing the blog round up the other day and came across the extraordinarily stylish Wendy Nguyen of Wendy’s Lookbook

Wendy Nguyen 1

She basically ticks all my boxes, tres femme, multi faceted expressions of style, loads of versatility, classy and tres chic dressed up or down and she’s got a sweet personality that shines through. Reading her story in the About section, there was even more jaw dropping. Wendy grew up in foster care, worked and fought hard to get into college, has worked with incarcerated youths and still volunteers at an organization that provides mentorship to previously incarcerated youths. Totally wowed! and that trumps the silly notion held by weird people that fashion aficionados are automatically flaky people.

Wendy also proves the point I’ve made several times that fashion is an artistic expression. I can’t help but quote her, ‘ I find inspiration in art, nature, culture, architecture, food, people, and music. And for me, fashion is a compilation of all that. Fashion is a vehicle for me to play with shapes and colors in order to uncover my personal style. Like music and art, fashion and style are forms of creative self-expression where each of us are architects creating unique designs and looks.

Pardon my excitement, it’s not everyday you find a fashion soulmate *grinning*

So, for that great style that has me doing the couch jump, check out after the jump. You can see Wendy sharing great fashion tips on her youtube chanel as well.

Around the world in a state of fashion forwardness: Louis Vuitton

15 Dec

You can’t expect anything less than exquisiteness where Louis Vuitton is concerned. This editorial is decadently chic, the pictures should be blown up to life size posters, framed in glass and put up in a gallery.

The photos were inspired by Louis Vuitton’s 2.011 city guides, illustrated by Ruben Toledo. The fashion spread was in In Fashion magazine. Love Love Love.

It’s all in the street style detail: A Bracelet fest

13 Dec

Since I ran into Swagger 360, I’ve been captivated by the detailed street photography I’ve seen on the blog.

Interestingly, it’s a blog focused on gentlemen’s fashion but that doesn’t in any way lessen the appeal for me; you simply have to love the detailed hand-knotted bow-tie shots and the generous tips on how to be and dress like a gentleman, lol. It’s quite exciting to see men show such creativity in the way they dress. It’s a blog definitely worth checking out.

Asides from the men, he does quite a few posts featuring detailed shots of women’s accessories and I love love love these close up shots of bracelet clad hands. Stacked bracelets are my favourite for signature accessories and these fashionistas wear them too well.  The stunning photography does justice to the exquisite taste of the ladies and the accessories.

You should check out the blog at Swagger 360 for a hearty detail feast and of course tips on how to be a gentleman (:

After all of this, I couldn’t resist creating a bracelets wish list, and my definite go-to spot for drool worthy bracelets is Net-a-porter and Asos. So, if money were no object, I shall be getting myself one or two of each. They’re just so pretty when stacked and the edgier the more attractive.

My best of Nicholas Kirkwood’s Spring 2011 Shoe Collection

1 Dec

The beauty of Nicholas Kirkwood is in the avant-garde structure of his shoes. He’s one of those shoe designers who simply redefined classic shoe shapes and created futuristic, edgy cuts and styles.

Spring 2011 is even more edgy, artistic structure with lots of colour, patterns and lush textures. He still features the iconic pumps with pearl detail – in vibrant hues – and those sleek brogues. I love what he’s done with classic pumps, he’s added some form of interest, so it’s either two-tone or featuring a lace panel or the genius pearl detail.

So, I picked out my favourites of the collection. The first ruffle detail sandal is my best.

Paris Fashion Week: Futuristic fashion at Gareth Pugh

30 Sep

Think fashion aboard this super stylish spacecraft or what the fashion forward ladies will be wearing in 3012 and you have the picture of this collection. True to his cyber space, sci-fi style, Gareth Pugh’s collection was chock full of space gear. Fashion forward, über chic space gear.

The absolutely genius twist was his ditching the catwalk and showing the collection in an i-max style movie.

You can check it out on the link http://showstudio.com/collection/gareth_pugh_paris_womenswear_s_s_11

The collection is another blissful reminder that fashion does not have to make sense, at least not in this century. We don’t have to be able to wear everything the creative mind of a designer crafts, after all, fashion is art. Take a peek at some of the pieces in the gorgeous collection.
