How Individual is your Style? Random Musings

11 Aug

I get bored easily if you ask me, and sometimes my wardrobe is the recipient of a wave of boredom. I just get tired of looking a certain way or dressing a certain way, so i want to change things up. No better panacea for boredom for me, lol.

The wardrobe and fashion choice is definitely a way to find expression, especially now with fashion evolving ever so quickly.

Now, there’s been a buzz about colour clashing in recent times, especially with the colour fest from the Spring/Summer Season. The real question to ask is, how many people can really pull this off and look good doing it? But hey, i digress from my main point.

Editorial in September issue of UK Vogue

We say style is about individuality but who really expresses their individuality through the way they dress? As in reeeally? I was  just saying my wardrobe gets hit when I’m bored but on the daily, I think I sometimes suppress my fashion sense in the name of reason. Sometimes, I feel like getting really editorial, read: picture above, lol, but then I just stop short cos I’m like, people’ll think I’m crazy. But should I really care? Shouldn’t I just look the way I want to look? So long as it’s not wrong? or a clear faux pas? or uncouth? Even though, dare I say the jury is out on what’s a faux pas these days. The rules change every day and what was a faux pas last month is haute couture today.

That’s why individuality has got to be king.

Well then, I really like to look at street style pictures, it can be so much fun. So i took to some of my fav street style sites – Elle, The Sartorialist and Guerreisms.com and came up with some interesting style from across the world and i mean that literally, Tokyo, Paris, Vancouver, New York, LA, Singapore, all represented.

Now, it’s no strange news that people world over are NOT afraid to express themselves through their style. It’s really beautiful, really. The crux is that they carry it so well and end up looking ‘uniquely fashionable’ if you ask me. See if you agree with me.

Don’t forget though, the argument here is for Individuality in your style! Trend slaves are bad, we get to throw rocks at ’em, lol

So, what’s the verdict? You have to admit, they pulled off  their individual style so well. Even when it was quirky or unusual, they had the complementary carriage.

So there, the vote goes to the fearless fashion savvy lady who will not be intimidated by the opinions of humanity.

Paint it Red: Editorial Lurv

30 Mar

Every once in a smoky blue moon, you come across an editorial that stops you in your tracks and has you gaping, totally mesmerized. Sometimes it’s the flawless styling, sometimes it’s the way the beautiful clothes have been interpreted in stunning photography, sometimes it’s just the sheer life, you know, the joie de vivre oozing out of the model, set and pictures.

Well, this is one of those moments, and what has me so wowed this time is the zest, the va va voom and energy of the editorial; plus the focus on vibrant hues of red and pink, major colours for the Spring season.

And of course I spot the resplendent red asymmetrical Lanvin dress, that dress dazzles in every shoot the way it dazzled on the runway. Then the pink fluoro Jil Sander skirt. Too much to love about this editorial.

Don’t be startled by the close up of the model – Carola Remer’s toothy smile, it’s just joy; joy for great fashion, lol.

This splendid work was styled by fashion editor Marie Chaix for the spring summer issue of Self Service.

Louboutin Spring Summer Tour

23 Jan

The fusion between art and fashion is beautiful. It’s like a collision of two creative forces and quite exciting to see. One designer who constantly makes this happen is Christian Louboutin, all you need do is check out his fantasy themed site and you’ll see what I mean.

For the coming season he collaborated with photographer Khuong Nguyen to make a stunning Spring/Summer 2011 lookbook tagged Louboutin Spring Summer Tour. The concept gives life to the shoes and makes them take on a whole new persona, more or less like ‘the Louboutins day out.’

The Best of Spring 2011 Bags: My Top 40

14 Oct

The attention grabbing clothes did a good job of trying to outshine the accessories but they were right there, holding their own and spicing things up.

After looking at the gorgeous bags that made the Spring 2011 runways, I chose my top 40 beauties. You’ll probably decipher that I love totes, the bigger the better, structure is right up my alley too. It wasn’t all totes though, there was an abundance of clutch bags a la Burberry, across the body bags and compact structured pieces. The abundantly fringed Roberto Cavalli bags stood out against the pack and appealed to the boho side of me.

For Spring 2011 bag trends, there’s a lot of structured large totes, the bags look large enough to fit all summer essentials and more, beach house perhaps? lol. The bright color trends showed up in bags too, there’s patterns, florals and embellishment, reflecting the key Spring trends.

Style Item: Ruthie Davis ‘Robot’ Sandal

12 Oct

Not only have I got love for the charming designer, but i adore this avant-garde label. Ruthie Davis is the go to label for fierce glam, edgy, sophisticated and subtly futuristic shoes. After turning out those spiked and studded shoes in previous collections, Spring 2011 is minimalist featuring wood, lucite and the signature heels. Gorgeous! I could use a pair of both.
