The Trend: Bright Coloured Bags

17 Mar

I’m sure it’s now painfully obvious that I am obsessing over this electric colour trend. It’s reminiscent of how I went on and on about the 50s trend for last Fall, Lol, I wanted it to go on forever. Still love the 50s, Fifties Forever! On trend or not.

Back to the moment, Spring is full of exciting trends, the 70s comeback is absolutely fabulous, Oh the beauty of wide leg pants, blouson sleeved blouses and platforms.

The next best thing is the electric colour trend, this one has completely got my heart; all the vibrant hues, clashing colours and colour blocking = blissful sight. What makes it perfect is that it’s not just with clothes you can rock this trend, there are tons of beautiful accessories, shoes and bags in brilliant, bright colours. So just in case for some weird reason, you’re not jumping on the electric colour train, try out some accessories to give zing to your dark wardrobe palette.

Excellent way to start is with bags; clutches, satchels, hobos, shoulder bags, you have a wide array of options to choose from.

Here’s my fav selection. I want ‘em all by the way

My best of Nicholas Kirkwood’s Spring 2011 Shoe Collection

1 Dec

The beauty of Nicholas Kirkwood is in the avant-garde structure of his shoes. He’s one of those shoe designers who simply redefined classic shoe shapes and created futuristic, edgy cuts and styles.

Spring 2011 is even more edgy, artistic structure with lots of colour, patterns and lush textures. He still features the iconic pumps with pearl detail – in vibrant hues – and those sleek brogues. I love what he’s done with classic pumps, he’s added some form of interest, so it’s either two-tone or featuring a lace panel or the genius pearl detail.

So, I picked out my favourites of the collection. The first ruffle detail sandal is my best.

Elle Singapore’s next season-esque editorial

23 Nov

Elle Singapore totally brings IT with this freshly whimsical editorial. It’s so refreshing when an editor breaks out of the pack and does something different. We were getting lost in the sea of sequins and body con style dresses heralding the December party season. Right now, all the magazines, websites, blogs are awash with sequins and glitter fare, the norm for this time of the year; but someone in Singapore stepped out of the box of glitz.

Aptly tagged Swept Away, it features feminine, whimsical style dresses and an aura more fitting for Spring/Summer. The bright hues, florals and floaty, romantic dresses tick all the next season trend boxes; says Spring 2011 has come early in Elle Singapore.

The brilliant styling was done by Daphne Chen, modelled by Sasha Luss and lensed by Zhang Jingna.

Paris Fashion Week: Sooooo elegant Haider Ackermann

3 Oct

I was waiting for Haider Ackermann with bated breath and it was definitely well worth the wait. There was a quality about his collection that made me want to be silent and just stare. It was sleek, elegant, luxe and soooo polished.

I have to say though that some pieces in the collection were a tad too showy, like ‘hey, watch the slits Mister!.’ But having said that, the combination of silks and chiffon with leather, the luxe way he injected jewel tones – plush emerald, electric blue, red – into black, was amazing. And that bow detailing on the back of the jackets? Speechless! Gotta have one of those jackets.

Overall, he does an amazing work with details. I love how he works with fabrics, the intricate knotting, the unusual bows. Viva Haider Ackermann, you’re da man.

Milan Fashion Week: Jil Sander dresses up the Tee

28 Sep

Inspired by haute couture, Jil Sander displayed an elegant twist to wearing the basic t-shirt. Also in line with the ‘bright colours’ trend that has taken the runways for Spring/Summer 2011. Love it because its different, fresh and vibrant. It does come across as stylish and chic, a sure head turner. Lets see if this takes off as mainstream fashion.
