For The Sake of Art: Dior Fall 2011 Couture Collection

15 Dec

Just for the sake of appreciating the workmanship and art that goes into creating these clothes, this is a beautiful collection. The exaggerated statement necklaces paired with them make for a very interesting combination too.

Don’t ask me if they can be worn that way in a real life situation though…that will depend totally on the wearer.

Elie Saab Spring ’11 Haute Couture: Every girl’s dream

27 Jan

I look forward to every Elie Saab runway show and when it comes, it’s always more than worth the wait.

I mean, for a designer who understands how to drape delicate lace and dreamy chiffon on the female form to this degree, I deign to wait.

The neutral palette infused with bright red and a touch of floral is breathtaking. The Elie Saab woman is soft, delicate and oozing an alluring feminineness. Every girl should be dressed like a princess every once in a while and this is  pure mastery in achieving that.

Beyond Fashion to Pure Art: Christian Dior Haute Couture

26 Jan

John Galliano is an artist, no one has ever doubted that, and with each showing on the runway, he just proves it again.

At this point, I’m not bothered about the wearability of these clothes; all i see is the expert craftsmanship of an amazing artist. The couture pieces, the hair, the head pieces, the make up; it’s beauty unparalleled.

John Galliano, we love you!

Haute 50s elegance in Harpers Bazaar en Espanol

2 Oct

With the recent ‘Mad Men’ frenzy that gripped the fashion industry, my beloved fashion era -the 50’s- has scored its place in the limelight. At least until Spring 2011 when the 70’s take over -if fashion week trends are anything to go by. The 50’s represented the peak of ultra feminine fashion, with the hallmark hourglass silhouette, cinched waist and full skirt pioneered by Christian Dior in the early 50’s. It was the era when women wore their hats and gloves religiously and looked to fashion icons, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe for inspiration.

It’s my favourite era because it celebrated the feminine silhouette, was elegant, graceful and all things ladylike. I was excited to see Prada and Louis Vuitton showing 50’s inspired fashion on the Fall 2010 runways. I guess we have Mad Men to thank.

So, Harpers Bazaar en Espanol has decided to give me and all 50’s fashion lovers a treat in the October issue. They celebrate 50’s elegance with this absolutely exquisite editorial featuring model  Michelle Westgeest and photography by Benjamin Kanarek. With the model wearing an original 1957 Dior dress, they couldn’t have paid a better homage to that era.
