Milan Fashion Week – Dolce & Gabbana SS ’13

24 Sep

The plan had been to follow the fashion week happenings in a chronological order, my review of London Fashion Week was next but I saw this Dolce & Gabbana collection and I could NOT wait.

It grabbed my attention and what I find so so mesmerizing is the detail, the vibrant colours, the accessories, the way it all just comes alive. The collection was inspired by Sicily, where Domenico Dolce is from. I find the collection so fascinating, I can’t help myself. The detail, Oh the detail. Never mind that this is almost to be expected by the design duo, they do florals and detail so well.

Notice the rafia fabric and vibrant colours, the graphic images sketched on dresses and tops and skirts, lol. I love this collection and I could wear some of the pieces. Notice the stripes in this collection too, major trend for S/S ’13 for sure.

The bags were stunning as well, and we’d have to come up with a name for the earrings – Über statement earrings. It made for such great viewing, all 86 pieces in the collection. The art and creativity of it all is what really gets me excited, never mind if some of the pieces are actually not wearable, fashion is art.

Editorial Lurv: Lady Be Good

11 Mar

It’s no news that I’m a die hard lover of all things ladylike, so finding this editorial tagged ‘Lady be Good’ on Vogue.com was pure joy. Featuring the model Amber Valletta alongside her son Auden McCaw (adorable twist), it’s sleek sophistication in the best of Spring fashion by Jil Sander, Dolce & Gabbana, Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Prada and more.

The pink Carolina Herrera silk blouse in the first picture is simply TDF.

There was a generous helping of pieces in one of Spring’s key shades, Tangerine but it was overall a celebration of my best Spring trend, Electric colour. On the look though, this is where fashion is at right now, grown up glamour with a zesty twist.

The shoot was photographed by Steven Klein.

The Best of Spring 2011 Bags: My Top 40

14 Oct

The attention grabbing clothes did a good job of trying to outshine the accessories but they were right there, holding their own and spicing things up.

After looking at the gorgeous bags that made the Spring 2011 runways, I chose my top 40 beauties. You’ll probably decipher that I love totes, the bigger the better, structure is right up my alley too. It wasn’t all totes though, there was an abundance of clutch bags a la Burberry, across the body bags and compact structured pieces. The abundantly fringed Roberto Cavalli bags stood out against the pack and appealed to the boho side of me.

For Spring 2011 bag trends, there’s a lot of structured large totes, the bags look large enough to fit all summer essentials and more, beach house perhaps? lol. The bright color trends showed up in bags too, there’s patterns, florals and embellishment, reflecting the key Spring trends.

Style talk: Leopard print? Well, just maybe

8 Oct

Maybe it’s the effect of seeing it every where, on the runway, in shops, online; or maybe it’s because I’m a bit more open these days but me, the self-confessed hater of all things animal print, seem to be falling for it.

Animal print is one of those trends that keep recurring every few years, reinvented but animal print quite alright. This season it’s made a pretty sleek chic come back and with designers like Louis Vuitton, Burberry Prorsum and Blumarine featuring it in Spring 2011, it just might be around for a while. Good thing too because it looks like we’ve finally figured out  how to wear it and look chic.

The basic rule is to keep it simple, let the animal print do the talking and keep accessories and all other items as plain as possible, else you’ll risk looking like something out of national geographic.

For wary but attracted fans like me, the secret is to introduce a little piece of leopard print into your outfit, could be a bag, shoe, scarf or possibly part of a dress? Well, i found the perfect dress on asos.com

I like that it combines all the essential girly elements, sheer, frills and of course animal print. Paired with  6 inch high black or nude pumps, a tote in similar colour and we are on our way! It can also be dressed up or down with the right accessories. Stellar style piece.

MFW: D&G Flower Power

26 Sep

This is quite belated given this show happened early in the week, but it’s pretty and sooooo floral, had to put it up. Dolce & Gabbana’s D&G line is targeted at their younger customers, so the collection this spring/summer was young and playful. They literally brought a garden to the runway, it was flowers, flowers, flowers every where. On the clothes and on the set.

The best part for me were the maxis that closed the show, full, floral and floaty, very gorgeous.
