New York Fashion Week (S/S ’13) – The Round Up

20 Sep

As we all know, by now the fashion week train is in Milan after finishing at LFW, so I must make my blogging way briskly in that direction, Lol.

I’m concluding my NYFW review with some of my favourites across the board, the designers who showed styles I really love. Sleek chic: check; generous draping: check; ladylike chic: check; impeccable tailoring: check.

Here they are:

Badgley Mischka

The clothes oozed elegance and a sleek chicness. The styles were in simple cuts, nothing overly architectural or out of this world but they were done in fabrics with a lot of gravitas. Brocade, Bouclé, Lurex treated tweed and lace made their way into the collection. Really pretty and very wearable.

Monique Lhuillier

Lhuillier is a designer I find very very appealing because she dresses the woman. Very sleek, very chic, stunning play on fabrics, ranging from leather to shimmering sequin encrusted beauties; everything skimming the female form and rock solid in structure. She also brought back the peplum, giving me the privilege of seeing one of my favourite styles from this summer coming back.

Carolina Herrera

I’ve seen quite a few pant suits but I love the elegant way this one was rendered. The fluid silk fabric, the blouson sleeves of the blouse and the gold floral embroidery is simply stunning.

Diane von Furstenberg

This is another designer who knows how to clothe the woman. I love the draping, the fluid fabrics and the use of colour.

New York Fashion Week [S/S ’13] Part 3 – Stripes Society

19 Sep

You know a fashion trend is going to be massive when two major designers base their entire collection around it. So, all lovers of stripes, in every imaginable expression, here they are.

Marc Jacobs

I particularly like the long dresses and the embellished horizontal striped dress. I find it completely fascinating that the entire collection was made up of stripes, in so many different ways. I mean, how far can you stretch your imagination? Big pat on the back to Mr Marc.

Tommy Hilfiger

And just when you thought you had seen it all, Tommy Hilfiger does it in a whole new way, blazers, leather dresses, the whole gamut – in stripes! Get ready to see in stripes come Spring 2013!

Jenny Packham

If there was one trend I loved this season, it was the peplum. So it was great to see it still in the running for Spring 2013. Love what Jenny Packham did with it! I’ll take that polka dot dress any day.

New York Fashion Week [Spring Summer 2013] Part 2

13 Sep

Today I’m focusing on a designer I absolutely love love love – Rachel Zoe.

There’s an elegant, grown up, classy lady feel to the entire collection. She did what she does so well, impeccable tailoring, easy laid back yet chic looks.

I’ve had a style crush on sequins for a while now, she did it so beautifully well, the off shoulder beautifully draped, floor length sequin dress is stunning.

I love this collection, it’s beautiful. I loved every single item sans plunging necklines of course, what would I give to popularize the more demure pieces.

Ok, look out for more great fashion in part 3!

New York Fashion Week [Spring Summer 2013] Part 1

12 Sep

It’s New York Fashion Week!!! Yeah, old news (for the fashion savvy) I know but exciting nonetheless. There’s no better time to rouse my sleeping blog, it’s fashion week once again, my favorite season too.

So I’ve been taking it all in, my instagram feed has been awash with images, live from the runways, as it happens. There have been tons of street style snaps and behind the scene footage, all the buzz!

We can already see some trends taking shape, the stripes (Marc Jacobs and Tommy Hilfiger went wild on stripes), the sheers (loads of sheer panelling, chiffon and tulle), the embellishments and the peplum trend which has been around for two seasons now – not that I mind, I love peplums! Loads of lace everywhere, I’m a sucker for lace, especially in the opulent rich texture as seen at Oscar de la Renta and Vera Wang. The color yellow seems to be showing up everywhere, color blocking is around yet again and the clashing of prints and patterns are clearly here to stay.

As it is with summer collections, I personally am loving all the bright fête of color going on, it just gives this joie de vivre vibe.

The season is looking so yummy already, and I have quite a few favorites. I will feature my favorites from a cross section of designers in a blog series starting with this one.

I shall start with the collections that had the jaw dropping effect on me.

Vera Wang

The textures, the colours – sparkling white, chartreuse, azure blue, amethyst, cypress green, gold-  the layers and layers of tulle, the decadent lace. This collection was so divine.

Oscar de la Renta

If you’ve been on this blog more than once, you know I love Oscar. He just can’t go wrong. He delivers the ladylike just the way I love it, the use of colour and texture and cut is pristine, can’t be faulted. This time around, he delved into pant suits and skirts suits, we saw a blazer and we saw shorts. There was a diversification in terms of style but definitely not in terms of aesthetic, the collection still personified ‘The Lady’

Alice + Olivia

There was something about this collection that just made me happy. It was airy and bright, young and free, eclectic and fun. The splashes of colour were vibrant and happy. The yellow sequinned dress was stunning, right up my alley. There was life -simply expressed – in the collection, I found that appealing.

NY Fashion Week Fall 2012: Victoria Beckham

14 Feb

Victoria Beckham is on a roll, she’s just running, guns blazing, stamping her image on the fashion world and simply not letting up.

To coincide with Fall fashion week, she launched a new bag named after baby Harper. Different from the typical VB bag but a beautiful addition to the pack, she’s becoming pretty unpredictable and that’s a good thing.

Victoria-Beckhams-Harper-Bag

With the Fall 2012 collection, she takes me right back to the place where I first fell in love with the line. It screams sleek sophistication, elegance, feminine allure and has got so much gravitas, simply head turning, simply stunning. Military accents that seem to be trending already are present in the collection as well.

The surprise element has to be those tough looking boots, very edgy and a complete contrast from the heels we’ve come to expect. Interestingly, the look works perfectly well, if there’s anyone who can make boots look feminine and sophisticated, it’s Victoria Beckham. These here are my best looks from the collection.

NY Fashion Week Fall 2012: Rachel Zoe

13 Feb

New York Fashion Week hit the ground running and it’s been beautiful fashion all around, so far I can already see some trends. Military is for sure making a come back but it’s still too early to tell how major it’s going to be, pleats are showing up again and colour and prints are going nowhere.

I will be kicking off my reporting with my new designer bff Rachel Zoe *big grin*

There’s so much to love about RZ’s first runway show, so much to love. As always, the seventies influence shines through with the pussy bow blouses and sequinned dresses. More impressively, I love the disregard for the somber hues that characterize fall fashion, there was so much colour. The variety of fabrics, texture, patterns plus impeccable tailoring gave the collection that eclectic, passionate vibe that Rachel Zoe herself exudes. Love the richly draped silks, they caught my eye, nothing says luxe like silk.

I give this collection an A+, Rachel Zoe is soaring to the top.

Lace found its way into the collection and completed it for me. Minus the faux fur – because I’m not particularly crazy about fur – this has to be my best look of all.

The Rachel Zoe Spring 2012 collection

18 Oct

When a fashion connoisseur cum fashionatic cum stylist to hollywood chics launches a line, it’s for sure something to look out for. Asides from her credentials, Rachel Zoe is to be loved because she is one person who is passionate about what she does, she makes it look like the great fun that I’m sure it is. Her reality series ‘The Rachel Zoe project’ was my fashion fix for a good part of last year. I’ll be watching the new season 4 as well, starting the back episodes this week.

Anyways, on to my Spring 2012 retrospective….

After being a stylist for a long while, Rachel Zoe decided to launch her very own fashion label. The first collection was for fall 2011 and she made a brilliant showing.

What I love about this Spring collection, which she showed during NYFW, is how versatile, graceful and pretty the pieces are. RZ is a seventies inspired girl, her style is very distinct and its reflected in the collection. I kinda like it when a designer’s collection reflects their style a la Victoria Beckham in the earlier days. What better way to endorse the brand?

The maxi dresses and tailored pieces have to be my favourites, the inclusion of ruffles here and there add the right dose of girliness without being too sweet. That cobalt blue jumpsuit? Is so badly wanted!

All in all, j’adore

Viva Jason Wu

19 Sep
JASON-WU 1

Jason Wu

This young designer’s creativity inspires me to no end. The consistency in his style, impeccable tailoring, that effort to add a fresh and different dimension to his designs, with clear inspiration; all result in pretty, very wearable pieces.

I was a bit taken aback by the thigh baring shorts that started the collection, that was his attempt at taking chances this season. True to his style though, he featured the delicately pretty ensembles that made us fall in love with him the first time.

Speaking of Spring 2012 though, I’m still trawling through the shows but i haven’t yet found my ultimate wow factor. Most of last Spring’s trends seem to be making the come back. As Cathy Horyn said though, let’s wait for the design power houses showing in Paris and Milan to tell us the game changing trends for next season.

Either ways, i’ll be back here talking about my ultimate wow factor collection once i find it!

My best of Jason Wu’s Fall 2011 RTW Collection

12 Feb

Well Duh! Fall 2011 Fashion Week debuted this week in New York and given that I’m a die-hard Jason Wu fan, he was the first guy I was checking out.

All i’m going to say is Simply Extraordinary.

Totally LOVE his use of lace. Impeccable tailoring, and sleek chic in every possible way. The Jason Wu woman has stepped up her elegance level by several notches and she maintains that demureness that makes her even more fetching.

I really have to say goodbye NYFW…with Herrera in tow

18 Sep

It was tons of great fashion at NYFW, obviously can’t blog about em all. I am partial to everything feminine and girly, so all things sleek, elegant, fitted, figure skimming, cinched at the waist, silky, sheer, whimsical, i love. And there were loads of it in New York this Spring/Summer.

So, to close off, here’s a collection that did justice to my style inclination. Signing off with Carolina Herrera

Love this one by Marchesa

Another artistic one by Marchesa, will we be seeing this on the red carpet???

Marchesa really killed it didn't they? Lovely, absolutely breathtaking

Love what Gwen Stefani did with prints in her collection. She makes the tribal look come to life in a fun, effortless way.

Viva Jason!

17 Sep

Yeah, we all started checking him out since Mrs Obama. The 28 year old designer hasn’t stopped making the headlines and editorials since that signature ball gown. What I love about Jason Wu is his attention to the feminine silhouette, his designs are elegant and almost girly/romantic at the same time. Love his use of colour too, from rich jewel tones to pastels to reds. He is definitely the man. So back to the trending topic,  S/S 2011. Once again, absolutely love his collection. Completely ticks the uber stylish box and fits snugly with what I love about his style. Body flattering fit, smartly tailored pants, romantic blouses, love the use of bows and delicate florals. In real life though, I won’t be wearing those sheer blouses with nothing under. Not down with the public display of your bits

Here are my faves from his collection.
