Spring 2012 Trend: The Tweed Jacket

7 Mar

Inspired by Chanel, more specifically Coco chanel, this jacket style is having a fashion moment right now. My favourites so far are the pieces by Tory Burch, Lanvin, Zara and HnM. The great thing is that they’ve been interpreted in a variety of cuts and structures to suit most body types.

The most important tip for wearing this style is to dress it up chic and for best effects with edgy accents. To avoid landing in the old lady chic zone, this jacket must NOT be worn with a full or A line skirt. Regular or wide leg pants are a no no too. The blazer tends to be bulky so for balance, the bottom must be streamlined

Pair with skinny jeans, tapered pants, capris or shorts; wear over a sheer or light weight blouse with shoe boots or chunky platforms. Hobo bag and statement necklace if you like and you’re ready to go.

I especially love the Tory Burch below, the frayed edges, deconstruction and metallic buttons are right up my alley.

Zara did a beautiful job with this trend, love the studded blazer. Note the styling of each blazer too, very edgy, very chic. Not a chance for old lady chic.

Paris Fashion Week Fall 2012: Haider Ackermann!

6 Mar

There is a reason why this designer was named by Karl Lagerfeld as a possible successor for the haute couture powerhouse Chanel. Anyone who understands how to sculpt luxe fabrics around the body with such sartorial precision, with a consistently accurate play of colour, texture, tailoring, draping, layering and those waist cinching effects…words fail me.

Presenting my best picks from the Fall 2012 collection of one of my favourite ever designers..Haider Ackermann! *big grin*

p.s.

Look out for the Lanvin collection, it was pure gorgeousness.

The many faces of this season’s flared pants

2 Feb

It’s no news that flared pants are having a major fashion moment and that they are one of the most talked about trend right now. It’s right in the centre of the 70’s comeback for Spring and the first rule is to wear with high heels to create that leg lengthening effect and to offset the wide legs.

I checked out the Resort 2011 collections and found many interpretations of this trend and plenty ways of wearing the flared pants.

Starting with Celine, typically minimal yet utterly chic styling, particularly love the sleek jumpsuit version.

Emilio Pucci really did make the 70’s come back, with the printed blouses and fringed jackets.

Monique Lhuillier totally takes the cake,  there is a sleek sophistication and elegance in her take of this trend. The pussy-bow blouses scream ladylike chic; there’s something for the not too serious days, work and the stylish evening event. Lhuillier gets my  gold star.

Viktor & Rolf, Sonia Rykiel, Rebecca Taylor and Tracy Reese also give great ideas for styling the pants. Rebecca Taylor does the classic casual look with black flared jeans, a floral blouse and wedges, totally screams Spring.

Style Statement: Tailored Wide Leg Pants

20 Oct

The wide leg pants made a come back on the runways with Fall 2010. It was actually the season of tailored evening pants, with peg legs, straight pants; all quickly giving the dear dowdy harem pants a boot.

These tailored pants are beautiful because they give you a polished, sleek chic look. I particularly love the high waisted, wide legs, not only do they minimise the bum but they give a super leg lengthening effect, particularly when paired with skyscraper heels.

And they won’t be going anywhere soon, they were all over the runways for Spring 2011, inspired by the seventies. I found an interesting piece on NY Times Fashion & Style talking about how to wear this look. Got me thinking about how i’d wear it.

Look 1 would be wool and silk blend top tucked into high waist wide leg pants,  high heels and bag; finished off with gold plated cuffs

Look 2 is more formal, wide leg pants worn with white shirt and plaid jacket, with my favourite bag du jour and high heels of course
