Paint it Red: Editorial Lurv

30 Mar

Every once in a smoky blue moon, you come across an editorial that stops you in your tracks and has you gaping, totally mesmerized. Sometimes it’s the flawless styling, sometimes it’s the way the beautiful clothes have been interpreted in stunning photography, sometimes it’s just the sheer life, you know, the joie de vivre oozing out of the model, set and pictures.

Well, this is one of those moments, and what has me so wowed this time is the zest, the va va voom and energy of the editorial; plus the focus on vibrant hues of red and pink, major colours for the Spring season.

And of course I spot the resplendent red asymmetrical Lanvin dress, that dress dazzles in every shoot the way it dazzled on the runway. Then the pink fluoro Jil Sander skirt. Too much to love about this editorial.

Don’t be startled by the close up of the model – Carola Remer’s toothy smile, it’s just joy; joy for great fashion, lol.

This splendid work was styled by fashion editor Marie Chaix for the spring summer issue of Self Service.

Editorial Lurv: Lady Be Good

11 Mar

It’s no news that I’m a die hard lover of all things ladylike, so finding this editorial tagged ‘Lady be Good’ on Vogue.com was pure joy. Featuring the model Amber Valletta alongside her son Auden McCaw (adorable twist), it’s sleek sophistication in the best of Spring fashion by Jil Sander, Dolce & Gabbana, Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Prada and more.

The pink Carolina Herrera silk blouse in the first picture is simply TDF.

There was a generous helping of pieces in one of Spring’s key shades, Tangerine but it was overall a celebration of my best Spring trend, Electric colour. On the look though, this is where fashion is at right now, grown up glamour with a zesty twist.

The shoot was photographed by Steven Klein.

Editorial Love: A distorted glare

12 Feb

Just before I dive headlong into the pulsating Fall 2011 fashion weeks, starting from NYFW, i had to share this blogpost.

These are the sort of editorials I admire and want to make into posters on my wall. It’s a beautiful fusion of excellent photography, fashion and art. The images were intentionally distorted but still managed to retain a crystal clear quality and the motion, i love motion photography. Don’t forget the clothes, all touching on Spring trends, electric colour and 70s influence.

The editorial featured models Nane Fesit and Crista Cober and was shot by Pierre Dal Corso.

Jil Sander’s Spring Colour Burst: Simply Stop and Stare

20 Jan

To say I am besotted with Jil Sander’s Spring collection will be a sorry understatement. Asides from holding the fashion pack in awe with the ‘minimalist meets maximalist meets kaleidoscope of colour meets couture’ show in Milan, the collection combines many elements I love and find sooo attractive.

Plain white tees + full sweeping skirts + gorgeous bright colour, so simply but exquisitely put together. I am craving every single skirt from the collection!

Jil Sander 4

Asides from the fact one piece from the collection has already made it’s red carpet debut with Kate Bosworth,

Kate Bosworth in Jil Sander_Hollywood Style Awards

you just know that this is one collection that’ll be featured over and over in editorials till we make the transition to next season.

Harper’s Bazaar has done beautiful justice to it already with Fashion’s bright spot, the editorial also features an interview with the genius designer Raf Simons.

I wait with bated breath for even more breathtaking editorials (pardon the pun, lol)

Glam Editorial: January issue of Harper’s Bazaar China

23 Dec

Combining high fashion with the striking scenery of Seoul makes for mind blowing editorials.

Featuring Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan, this editorial was shot on location in Seoul and styled by Harper’s Bazaar China’s fashion editor Li Hui.

It brings words like elegant, graceful, resplendent, breath taking to mind. Once again, fashion is an art form.

Around the world in a state of fashion forwardness: Louis Vuitton

15 Dec

You can’t expect anything less than exquisiteness where Louis Vuitton is concerned. This editorial is decadently chic, the pictures should be blown up to life size posters, framed in glass and put up in a gallery.

The photos were inspired by Louis Vuitton’s 2.011 city guides, illustrated by Ruben Toledo. The fashion spread was in In Fashion magazine. Love Love Love.

The doll faced Elle Fanning

12 Dec

Don’t you just love it when the siblings pop too? Loving this editorial with Dakota Fanning’s little sister, Elle. She’s a movie star in her own right and has starred in several movies, she was in ‘The curious case of Benjamin Button.’

The 12 year old is apparently a fashionista in her own right and she’s got this fresh, fun aura that makes me long for the teenage years again. And by the way, the Valentino dress from SS 2011 – in second pic – looks gorgeous on her.

The beautiful photography was by Steven Pan. You can see the full interview here

Editorial Retro: The famous ‘Alice in Wonderland’ by US Vogue

11 Dec

I take a major fancy to editorials because they’re one of the best outlets for creative expression in fashion. And if you’re looking to find the creative director who has turned out some of the most amazing editorials, look no further than Grace Coddington of US Vogue.

Seven years after this editorial, we’re still loving it. Asides from the fact that I love Alice in Wonderland the classic, the editorial brings the story to life in style and takes inspiration from ten major designers. Alice (Natalia Vodianova) wore dresses from their collections and then they stepped it up by involving each designer in the shoot. Monsieur Lagerfeld himself was right there in wonderland, and it was hilarious to see Viktor and Rolf posing as Tweedledee and Tweedledum.

That’s the amazing magic that happens when you put two legends in a room, Grace Coddington and Annie Liebovitz work some magic.

Spring 2011 Fashion with a Zing!

7 Dec

This editorial is the best expression of Spring 2011 I’ve seen so far. It channels key trends for Spring 2011 and screams girl power, that’s my best part, gotta love girl power. The shoot has got so much oomph! Coming from New York Times Style Magazine, this is definitely Zing!

The fierce model group wore some of my favourite designers, Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, Oscar de la Renta and Nicholas Kirkwood shoes, featuring lots of bright colour and floaty floral print.  Love Love Love!

Glam Glam Absolutely Glam 50’s Editorial by Marie Claire

3 Dec

How am I ever going to stop pining after the 50’s trend taking the fashion world by storm? I don’t see an end in sight! Not with editorials like this one in the December issue of Marie Claire Turkey. This is glamour, high class and haute sophistication personified, all totally rolled into one and I am loving it.

The model Wiola Kowal depicts this über fab retro housewife searching for escape, she’s dressed in Louis Vuitton, Prada and once again, the most photographed Miu Miu dress. Styled by Hakan Öztürk and photographed by Talmer Yilmaz.

When Nick Knight is doing the photography, you can be sure you’re getting out-of-the-box artistic photography. This editorial was featured in the November edition of Vogue UK, featuring Brazilian model Raquel Zimmermann, styled by Lucinda Chambers.

A certain Je na sais quoi

27 Nov

Must be the combination of soft curls, intense blue eyes, round tortoise shell geek chic like glasses, dark sequinned blouse, berry lipstick, i don’t know what.

Bottom-line, this is a striking portrait. Never mind that the editorial was about hairstyles.

Elle Singapore’s next season-esque editorial

23 Nov

Elle Singapore totally brings IT with this freshly whimsical editorial. It’s so refreshing when an editor breaks out of the pack and does something different. We were getting lost in the sea of sequins and body con style dresses heralding the December party season. Right now, all the magazines, websites, blogs are awash with sequins and glitter fare, the norm for this time of the year; but someone in Singapore stepped out of the box of glitz.

Aptly tagged Swept Away, it features feminine, whimsical style dresses and an aura more fitting for Spring/Summer. The bright hues, florals and floaty, romantic dresses tick all the next season trend boxes; says Spring 2011 has come early in Elle Singapore.

The brilliant styling was done by Daphne Chen, modelled by Sasha Luss and lensed by Zhang Jingna.
