It’s the season of A-list designers collaborating with high street stores. The much awaited and longed for Lanvin hearts H&M collection hit the stores and online yesterday and SOLD OUT. The H&M site actually crashed in the morning! People literally slept outside the stores and waited on-line for hours! And even though they were only allowed to buy one piece of each item in the collection, individuals spent up to $1,800 shopping. Might have as well purchased a Lanvin dress! The passion for designer fashion is beyond comprehension.
Now that Lanvin hearts H&M has been fulfilled and fashionistas are purring over their purchases, the next collabo up for frenzied buying is Valentino for Gap. The Italian designer – now headed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli – created a seven piece capsule collection featuring ruffled khaki pieces, a parka, jacket, skirt, cargo pants.
Lots of bows and ruffles applied to the hard-edged military look, the attempt was to introduce a soft, feminine side to Gap’s classic style. I’ll describe the collection as girly military.
The designers, Chiuri and Piccioli captured the essence of it: ‘We love mixing different cultures and we have been excited to mix gap’s timeless essentials with our roman culture of Couture. It brings together the iconic world of Valentino and Gap’s fashion staples, synthesizing the current trend of combining luxury with basics.’
The collection hits the stores in London and Paris next week. And by the way, up next in the designer/high street collabo line up is the mammoth Karl Lagerfeld of CHANEL for Macy’s. Pretty interesting times for fashion.
